Dr L.J.M. Owen...

escapes dark and shadowy days as a public servant by exploring the comparatively lighter side of life: murder, mystery and forgotten women's history.

A trained archaeologist and qualified librarian with a PhD in palaeogenetics, a limited edition run of L.J.’s first novel, Olmec Obituary, was crowd-funded via Kickstarter in early 2015. The book was then traditionally published in November 2015 by Echo Publishing (Bonnier) and released again in August 2016 with a snazzy new cover.

Opening the Dr Pimms, Intermillennial Sleuth series, in Olmec Obituary L.J. introduced readers to a young Dr Elizabeth Pimms who contends with ancient murder and family secrets in a world of archaeology, forensic science, libraries, food and cats.

In Mayan Mendacity, the second book in the series to be released in November 2016, L.J. explores the ancient world of Mayan politics, scribes and female rulers.

L.J. spends as much time as possible creating Dr Pimms' world to provide refuge for bookworms everywhere. Recipes in the series are tested under strict feline supervision.

Note from the Author

Like many bookworms the best parts of my childhood were spent in the storyworlds created by others. A bad day saw me escape under the covers, with a torch and an orange, to faraway lands where mysteries were solved, hard work was rewarded and bad guys got their comeuppance. As an adult I decided to create another place for us all to run away to.

They say you should write what you know. As I’m a trained archaeologist, a qualified librarian and I have a PhD in palaeogenetics, I thought – archaeological mystery series, with a librarian protagonist – naturally!

So if you like the idea of curling up in an armchair, tea in hand, fireplace crackling, and immersing yourself in a world of archaeological wonders, forensic science and really good food, then this might just be your new favourite series.

Welcome to the world of Dr Pimms, Intermillennial Sleuth. Really cold cases.
